Peter Kohn
Senior Journalist
pkohn@jewishnews.net.auPETER KOHN is the Senior Journalist of the Australian Jewish News and a long-time writer for the newspaper.
Peter is the author of two novels. Rachel’s Chance is the story of his family’s experiences as Jewish refugees in Shanghai during World War II, and View From A Sandcastle is based on his own story, growing up in Melbourne suburbia during the 1960s and 1970s.
He has always held a keen interest in current events and began his journalism career as a cadet reporter at the Melbourne Herald. (Now Herald Sun). He has been an editor of radio news, managing a newsroom, and has worked as a senior reporter on metropolitan radio stations, has reported from the United States, and has edited and contributed to a number of computer and technology magazines.
“The one constant factor about news is that it never stops, and with today’s online services, the latest developments are just a tap or mouse-click away,” he says. “As a journalist, this often means a fast-paced work style, and while journalism can be demanding, it’s also a very rewarding profession.”
“I have for decades had a passionate interest in our complex, dynamic Australian Jewish community,” reflects Peter. “Reporting its ongoing story, its hopes and dreams, is a unique odyssey for any journalist.”
