In 1991 Danny joined the AJN as Arts Editor, a position he has held over the years except for a two-year stint as Website Editor (2006-08). From 2011-18 Danny was National Arts Editor and is currently Arts Editor (Victoria). While enjoying all areas of the entertainment industry, his favourites are musicals and movies. Since 1992 Danny has also written about travel for the AJN. Danny started his journalism career with the Herald & Weekly Times (HWT), working on The Sun, which was Australia’s biggest selling newspaper, in the 1970s. After working as a reporter in a variety of fields including police, courts and entertainment, Danny swapped the shift work of newspapers for public service hours as Publications Editor in the PR department of the Country Roads Board, a state government authority. After a couple of years, Danny returned to newspapers in 1980 as sub-editor on the HWT’s new entertainment paper, Scene. When Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp bought the HWT in 1987, it merged Scene with TV Week and Danny (who was acting editor) moved there as a subeditor and film reviewer. In 1989 News Corp established a new Sunday paper, The Sunday Sun, and Danny moved again to work on its entertainment magazine. In 1991 News Corp merged its daily papers, The Herald and The Sun, and closed The Sunday Sun. Danny left the company and shortly afterwards AJN editor Sam Lipski offered him the Arts Editor position.
